LGD Anatolians are one of the most classic and ancient breeds used as LGDs — large, powerful, independent working bred for thousands of years in Turkey to protect livestock (sheep, goats, etc.) from predators like wolves, jackals, or coyotes without much human direction.
Key traits of Anatolians as LGDs:
* Extremely protective and territorial — they bond deeply with the flock/herd rather than humans.
* Independent thinkers; they make decisions on their own at night or when threats appear.
* Massive size: Males often 110–150+ lbs, females 80–120+ lbs, with a muscular build.
* Thick coat suited for harsh weather, calm but vigilant temperament when mature.
Not typically "pet" dogs — they need space, a job (guarding), and experienced handling.
