I have had an absolute blast with this handcycle in the three years I've owned it, but it's time to let it go. Why, you ask? Because with this handcycle, I rediscovered the love of bicycling that I had before my injury 34+ years ago, and I've bought a more-capable, more-expensive handcycle. As I can only ride one of them at a time, I'm selling this one. I hope its buyer loves it as much as I have. Here are all the details about it.
This is a Top End/Action brand, Excelerator model handcycle. I bought it used from its original owner in 2022. The seat is 16"W x 16"L. You can slide the seat forward/backwards, adjust the footrests forward/backwards and up/down, and lower/raise the crank. I'm 6'4" and 220 lbs. and have everything set at its tallest settings. Someone shorter than me would fit on it better, but I've had no problems using it even at my size.
It has the Mountain Drive upgrade from the factory. So in addition to the seven standard speeds in the hub, it adds a two-speed gearset in the crank, which gives you seven lower speeds. That's a $400-$500 option, and I'm glad that it has it as it really helps with climbing hills. When I bought it, the previous owner had just installed three brand-new, identical tires. If I tried to climb a hill that was too steep, the front tire would spin out. So I upgraded the front tire to a wider, grippier tire (and bigger tube). This gave it way more traction. It also gave me a spare tire for the rear. The rear tires are cambered, meaning they lean in at the top, for increased stability. So they wear on the inside edge. I rotate the rear tires, along with the spare, every once in a while. See the picture of the rotation pattern and schedule. I just did a rotation on them, so you should be good to go for a while before needing another rotation.
Since I've owned it, I've made all kinds of upgrades to make this bike safer, more fun, and more useful. A list is as follows:
-A Jay gel cushion. I'm paralyzed. If you are, too, or if you have poor circulation in your legs, this cushion is awesome.
-Lights, front and rear. They're included, as is a USB charging cable.
-Vertical pedals are more ergonomically-correct than the horizontal ones that came standard on it, so I upgraded them. I also added pedal extenders to accommodate my wide torso. The original horizontal pedals are included.
-Fork bag on the left fork. I regularly did 25-30 mile rides on this bike, and this bag was handy to haul tools, my wallet, my keys, and whatever else I needed on my ride.
-Rearview mirror, along with a custom-fabricated (by me) bracket. This is an essential add-on for riding in traffic.
-Custom-fabricated (by me) bracket for a phone mount. As I really liked my phone mount, I swapped it over to my new handcycle, but this one is ready for you to add your choice of phone mount. (I can send you a link to the one I use if you'd like.)
-Dual drink bottle cages on custom-fabricated (by me) underseat brackets. These hold standard bike water bottles to keep you hydrated on the road or trail.
-A holster on yet another custom-fabricated (by me) bracket. It's a crazy world, and I like to be prepared. However, if you don't want a holster on it, I can take it and the bracket off. Or, if you want a holster to fit a specific tool different from the one I prefer to carry, I can probably make that work for you. Message me and we can discuss.
Additional stuff that goes with it:
-Spare tube for the rear tires, in addition to the extra tire I mentioned above.
-A bicycle multitool (my new handcycle uses different size fasteners, so I don't need this tool). The fork bag is large enough to hold this tool, the spare tube, plus all kinds of other stuff.
-Spare attachment loop for the fork bag.
-The original parking brake that I took off of it. I didn't need the parking brake to get on/off of it, but you can put it back on if you'd like.
I take care of my stuff, and this handcycle is no exception. I've diligently maintained it and kept it clean. If you buy it, it will leave here with chain freshly lubed and tires inflated to the pressures I've found that are best (the front needs a different pressure than the rears).
I'd prefer all of this sells together, but if there is any of it that you really just don't think you'll use, I can possibly keep it, sell it separately, and adjust the price. Just message me and we'll discuss what you're thinking.
Don't hesitate to ask me any questions you have, and get in touch if you want to come test ride it. Located in Maceo, KY 42355. And I understand that not everyone has a pickup truck like I do. I can deliver it to you (for a fee based on mileage) within 200 miles. Cash on pickup. If I deliver it to you, I'll need a deposit before I head out, with the balance in cash when I deliver it.
